My Catholic faith has always been a part of my life. I was blessed enough to attend Catholic schools throughout my education, even through college at Benedictine. However, I’m not sure I appreciated it nearly as much as the children that benefit from the Catholic Education Foundation scholarships and CEF Futures Guardian Angel Fund. The fire in their hearts for Catholic schools is practically palpable and truly inspiring!
The holiday season is upon us and soon our schedules will fill, to-do lists will seem endless and with the hustle and bustle we can easily forget the joy that comes with giving back. There is no better way to celebrate the season than by fellowship with loved ones, gratitude and giving back.
Being recognized as the Archbishop Joseph Naumann CEF School of Excellence means so much to Resurrection Catholic School at the Cathedral because we know how many great Catholic schools are served by CEF. It also causes me to reflect on how blessed the school is to have such a great faculty and staff. Led by Principal Lynda Higgins, Resurrection continues to thrive when most urban core Catholic schools nationally are navigating ways to keep their doors open.
When I first started emceeing Gaudeamus in 2009, I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve emceed other charity fundraising events in which the audience didn’t seem engaged in the mission of the organization. So why emcee Gaudeamus? Because this audience is truly interested in the cause and making Catholic education possible to those who can’t afford it is essential.
Mr. and Mrs. Stan and Suzan Cramer are this year’s recipients of the “Michael & Patty Morrisey Angels Among Us Award,” and they truly embody the spirit of Gaudeamus (“Let Us Rejoice”) as they have been joyfully giving to CEF for over a decade. Gaudeamus attendees are familiar with hearing Stan’s signature voice and seeing his big smile as the Gaudeamus Emcee for the past nine years. Behind the scenes, he has also contributed countless hours to video production for the event and served on CEF’s Marketing Committee.
