Resurrection Honored to Win School of Excellence Award

Being recognized as the Archbishop Joseph Naumann CEF School of Excellence means so much to Resurrection Catholic School at the Cathedral because we know how many great Catholic schools are served by CEF. It also causes me to reflect on how blessed the school is to have such a great faculty and staff. Led by Principal Lynda Higgins, Resurrection continues to thrive when most urban core Catholic schools nationally are navigating ways to keep their doors open.

The odds were against Resurrection when it became a consolidated school in 2007. The decision briefly divided the community when three schools were combined, and five parishes were now supporting one school. Many people wondered, “Whose school is it?” But because of the faith and commitment of Resurrection’s families, faculty, and staff, enrollment has increased, test scores have improved, and Resurrection has been honored as the CEF School of Excellence four times over.

We have challenges at Resurrection; 76% of our students are eligible for federal free or reduced lunch, and with students from Mexico, Croatia, and Myanmar/Burma, over 50% speak a language other than English at home. The financial support that Resurrection receives from CEF is vital to the success of the school and these students. These children excel at Resurrection because of the love and support they get daily when they enter the school each morning. It wouldn’t be possible without CEF!
