The Catholic Education Foundation Futures committee is a group for young professionals who are passionate about CEF’s mission to support Catholic education. I joined CEF Futures about a year ago after hearing about the group from one of my good friends. Having received a Catholic education myself and having a great experience throughout my time in Catholic schools, I wanted to be able to give back to children less fortunate than I, and give them the same great education experience that I received.

A big part of being able to give back to the children is CEF’s signature event, Gaudeamus. Gaudeamus (meaning “Let Us Rejoice”) is an annual event that raises funds for scholarships for low-income children to attend Catholic schools. It is ranked the 3rd largest fundraiser in Kansas City by The Independent magazine.

This year, for the first time, the Futures committee is hosting a pre-party for Gaudeamus. The goal for the pre-party is to raise enough funds for two scholarships. The total amount raised at the pre-party will be announced at Gaudeamus and will be added to the total amount raised by the audience in attendance that night.

The pre-party will be Wednesday, September 28th, from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Maloney’s Sports Bar & Grill in downtown Overland Park. Tickets are $35 and include appetizers and drinks. This is a great opportunity for you to get involved in supporting Catholic education and to meet other young professionals in the Kansas City area who are passionate about the same thing.

CEF Futures members also have the opportunity to attend Gaudeamus on October 29th. There will be designated tables for the Futures members. Contact Laurel Sharpe if you are interested in attending with the Futures group. The Futures also will host an after party for Gaudeamus guests at the Overland Park Convention Center.
