On October 29, more than 1,300 people gathered at the Overland Park Convention Center for the Catholic Education Foundation's annual Gaudeamus (Let Us Rejoice) Dinner. The celebration, which honored Tom & Sandy Long as this year's Angels Among Us, resulted in more than $1 million pledged for CEF scholarships!
During the event, CEF Board Chair Joan Wells introduced William Kirk as CEF's new Executive Director. Later in the program, Holy Family Catholic School in Topeka received the 2016 CEF School of Excellence Award. The Mater Dei Catholic School Drumline, the Ascension Catholic School Choir and singer Ron Gutierrez provided entertainment. Stan Cramer served as the evening's emcee. Christa Dubill and a crew from Channel 41 Action News provided live interviews of event guests, which were broadcast during the program.
The 164 volunteers who helped make Gaudeamus possible included dozens of CEF students who assisted throughout the evening by passing out programs, helping guests find their tables, and handing out gifts blessed by Archbishop Naumann. Following the dinner, hundreds of Gaudeamus guests stayed to enjoy the after parties.
THANK YOU to all the sponsors, guests, and volunteers who helped make Gaudeamus 2016 such a huge success for the children and families who benefit from CEF's scholarship program! Your support is truly changing lives!
For more Gaudeamus coverage, view our photo album, see our live social media updates, or watch the Golden Opportunity video shown during the program. And save the date for next year's Gaudeamus celebration: October 21, 2017!
Thanks to your support, enrollment in CEF schools is up 128 students this year as compared to last year! But the CEF principals have identified 454 additional kids who want to attend our schools. While we are thrilled with the results of Gaudeamus, we still have a lot of work to do to make Catholic education a reality for the 454+ kids awaiting our help!
