During the 2020-21 school year, in-person learning took place at all CEF-supported Catholic schools. These dedicated and caring educators ensured that students received the same high-quality, faith-based education, formation and support that Catholic schools are known for. And a new report on learning outcomes shows that it made a difference.
According to data from the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), nationwide Catholic school students outperformed their peers at public schools coming out of the pandemic.
"Catholic school students’ average scores remained 15 points higher than the average scores of their 8th grade peers in other schools," added NCEA in a press release.
Furthermore, Catholic schools are near the top in learning outcomes for students receiving free and reduced-priced lunch, demonstrating the system’s commitment to underprivileged students.
In a recent article for The Leaven, the Superintendent of Catholic schools, Dr. Vince Cascone, noted that students benefited from in-person learning, both academically and with their mental health.
"I hope that more people see not just that we did it right during COVID,” said Cascone, “but we have a great thing that we offer in Catholic education.”
While the outcomes are clear, for single and struggling parents, tuition costs can make a Catholic education seem out of reach.
