CEF Futures' Cocktails for a Cause Raises 7 Scholarships

Posted on July 6, 2018 in Futures Leadership Council, Upcoming Events

Last month, the Catholic Education Foundation Futures Committee hosted its third Cocktails for a Cause event, setting new records for both attendance and money raised. Proceeds from the event will fund approximately seven Guardian Angel scholarships, which provide tuition assistance for students attending CEF-supported schools when their families face an unexpected financial crisis that impacts their ability to pay tuition (job loss, medical emergency, etc.). This event is so much more than a social gathering of young professionals, as the money raised for the Guardian Angel Fund has helped 219 kids with $114,591 in scholarships since 2011.

In a rather hot summer, we lucked out with beautiful weather the evening of the event, and we were able to utilize the entire upstairs and porch at Maloneys Sports Bar & Grill in downtown Overland Park. This year the CEF Futures group elected to incorporate more raffle items and pre-event bidding on Notre Dame Football tickets. The raffle items, including tours of Amigoni Winery, jewelry from Kendra Scott, and giftcards for CycleBar, Chicken and Pickle, Nigros and Stick Sisters, were donated by local businesses, which contributed to record fundraising for Cocktails for a Cause. Throughout the evening it was great to see friends and family come out for the event, and of course, to share a cocktail or two with new friends.

A special thanks to Maloneys and all of the other generous sponsors that helped support Cocktails for a Cause. Thanks to all of the CEF Futures that helped plan this awesome event, and especially all of those who were able to join and help support the CEF Futures’ mission to help students stay in their CEF-supported schools even when their families face unexpected financial difficulties.  It is refreshing to see both new and familiar faces at all of the CEF Futures’ events as the events continue to be a tremendous success.
