What’s Inside the Numbers?????

Can you believe that the summer is more than half over? My how time flies when you are having fun. This summer has been a hot one with temperatures in the 90’s and heat index numbers over 100.

Speaking of hot, how about those Royals? As I blog, the Royals are in first place in their division and have the second best record in baseball at 55-35. If you are a fan you know that Lo-Cain, Salvy, Hos, Esky & Moose along with the lights-out bullpen are the main reasons our hometown boys in blue are on top of the American League Central.

Continuing the “lights out” numbers conversation: During the 2014-15 school year the Catholic Education Foundation provided a record 1,363 scholarships for children in need. The kids come from 867 families. The majority are living in poverty with an average annual income of less than $24k for a family of four. They struggle to just put food on the table. The average scholarship provided was $910.

It is hard to believe, but the 2015-16 school year will start in 4 weeks. During the upcoming year CEF plans to distribute more than $1.3 million to 20 designated schools. If the averages stay the same there will be 1,446 scholarship recipients.

I am pleased to advise you that during the upcoming year the CEF will reach a new milestone by providing more than 10,000 scholarships over the past 9 years!

The referenced numbers are made possible by 949 donors. These individuals are making Catholic education a reality for kids who just need a chance. The Catholic school chance they are given will help them break the cycle of poverty they are currently experiencing.

Last but not least, I want to give a shout out (isn’t that what bloggers do?) to past and present CEF Board members. This group of supporters is the backbone of the Catholic Education Foundation and is the reason we have record numbers to blog about. That, my blog readers, is what’s inside the numbers!!!!!
