A new look for student classrooms

Posted on March 30, 2020 in Student Projects
There's no place like home -- for class, that is. In homes across the Archdiocese, dining tables and living rooms have become classroom central, where students use digital devices every day and follow the same curricula as they would have in their traditional school classrooms.

A family from St. Matthew Catholic School in Topeka (in photo above) is making the best of it, finding time to be together while focusing on getting the work done. Many parents work from home, right alongside their children working on their studies.

When the COVID-19 pandemic forced schools in our Archdiocese to close, families pulled together to keep things moving -- including classroom instructions. Teachers at Catholic schools prepared digital lesson plans while families set up makeshift classrooms in dining rooms everywhere. In the past two weeks, teachers and Catholic school leaders have reacted swiftly to mandates made by the Kansas Dept. of Education and the Governor. Now, teachers and students have returned from spring break and are starting 4th quarter academic activities.

Students are led in prayer by their principals at the start of each day, then follow their individual teacher's instruction - all via video teleconferencing. Teachers are adapting lab work with creative video demonstrations. Teachers and students are also able to view and participate together in the Archbishop's masses, prayer services and even the Pope's special addresses. Please continue to keep these students and teachers in your prayers!

Send us your photos of your classroom study space at home -- we might just feature it on social media!
