Fruits of Catholic schools evident at Bishop Ward

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of touring the Bishop Ward High School for our quarterly CEF Board meeting.   This meeting was unusual in the sense that we rarely get to see our kids at this stage of their schooling.  So often we are helping (and visiting) kids at a very young age in either grade school or middle school.  But here, we were able to see the fruits of 8 years of Jesus in these childrens’ lives.  For that reason, seeing the kids at Bishop Ward was both refreshing and confirming of the mission of CEF.  We saw kids who were voluntarily staying after school to work on homework and help teachers.  Other kids were excitedly discussing their college plans.  Without the opportunity given to these kids from CEF and our school system, I doubt many of them would even be thinking of post-high school plans.

Though the school achievements are always something to be proud of, I was even more impressed with the work Jesus had done (and continues to do!) in these kids’ lives.  They were proud to talk about their faith and it was easy to see they had a strong belief in themselves and what they were capable of through Jesus.  As a parent, there are few verses stronger than 3 John 1:4: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”  Based on the kids I saw at Bishop Ward, there should be a large number of parents that are filled with this great joy!  I am truly blessed to have been able to see first hand how CEF is able to have a small part in helping to build this joy.
